The Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) in Papua New Guinea is implemented through the Multi-Stakeholder Group (MSG).
The Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) is the global standard for the governance of oil, gas, and mineral resources. It requires countries to disclose information across the extractive industry value chain, from licence allocation through to revenue reaching the public.
In 2013, the Government of Papua New Guinea committed to implementing the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative. The PNG EITI Secretariat coordinates the Multi-Stakeholder Group (MSG), the national decision-making body responsible for implementation.
The MSG is responsible for:
Setting the scope for transparency standards applied nationally
Ensuring collaboration between government, industry, and civil society
Strengthening accountability so citizens have access to reliable information
The Multi-Stakeholder Group ensures resource governance is a shared responsibility across Government, Industry, and Civil Society.
The PNG EITI MSG includes representatives from civil society who work alongside government and industry to define disclosure priorities, strengthen transparency, and ensure community perspectives are represented.
