The PNG Resource Governance Coalition is committed to promoting transparency, accountability, and sustainable development in Papua New Guinea. Our focus and priorities guide our strategic initiatives, advocacy, and partnerships, ensuring that our actions have tangible, measurable impact on communities and governance systems across the country.
PNGRGC plays a central role in coordinating the civil society's participation in the PNG Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative, ensuring that community perspectives are represented in decisions about how resource revenues are reported and managed. The Coalition actively contributes feedback on PNGEITI work plans and reports and participates in technical working groups shaping the EITI Commission Bill and associated reporting legislation, helping strengthen the national transparency framework.
The Coalition works to uphold high standards of governance by promoting accountability among government agencies and extractive companies responsible for managing PNG’s natural resources. Through evidence-based advocacy and participation in national policy processes, PNGRGC helps ensure that decisions affecting the use of resource revenues are fair, open, and aligned with the public interest.
PNGRGC functions as the umbrella network for a wide range of civil society groups, including community-based, faith-based, legal, environmental, transparency, and anti-corruption organizations working in or connected to the extractive sector. By coordinating their engagement, providing guidance for MSG participation, and strengthening internal governance standards, the Coalition ensures that CSOs have the capacity, unity, and legitimacy needed to influence national resource governance processes.
The Coalition works to highlight the environmental, social, and economic pressures that communities experience because of mining, oil, and gas activities. PNGRGC carries out community-focused programs and outreach initiatives that improve understanding of resource governance issues and strengthen community ownership of decisions that affect their land, heritage, and wellbeing.
PNGRGC not only reviews but also contributes constructively to the development of national transparency frameworks, including feedback to PNGEITI’s annual work plans and official reports. The Coalition’s involvement in consultation processes such as those for the EITI Commission Bill and reporting regulations, ensures that civil society voices help shape legal instruments governing transparency and resource revenue management.
